About

The independent voice of eyewear.

We're building the eyewear publication we couldn't find: honest, expert-backed, and written for the person who wears the glasses — not the industry that sells them.

Why we exist

Pick up almost any eyewear media and you'll notice a gap. The trade press is written for the industry — margins, distribution, wholesale news. Brand feeds are advertisements with a comment section. Influencer content is paid placement, undisclosed more often than not. And general media covers glasses as a fashion afterthought, a shopping-list item with affiliate links and no fitting expertise.

Nobody covers eyewear as what it actually is: healthcare, fashion, and technology in a single object you wear on your face for twelve hours a day. Glasses correct your vision, define how the world sees you, and increasingly carry sensors, chips, and augmented-reality optics. That deserves serious, honest coverage — and we couldn't find it, so we started it.

We're consumer-first, which sounds like a slogan but works as a filter: if a story doesn't help a real person choose, fit, care for, or understand their eyewear, we don't publish it. We're expert-backed, which means our writers work alongside licensed opticians who fit glasses every day — the people who adjust the nose pads, measure the pupillary distance, and hear the complaints. And we're allergic to marketing fluff: no regurgitated press releases, no "game-changing" adjectives, no ranking that was decided before the testing began.

Attached to a real store

4 Eyes Club is attached to a real optical store in Manchester, Connecticut — and we consider that our superpower. It means real try-ons instead of stock photography: frames on high bridges and low bridges, wide faces and narrow ones, faces that don't look like campaign models. It means real optician expertise behind every fit guide, every review, every recommendation. And it means real customers, whose feedback is the most honest product data in the industry — the nose-pad dents, the hinge failures, the lenses that weren't worth the upcharge.

Our editorial team stays independent of the store's sales floor. We write what the evidence says, recommend what we'd buy ourselves, and disclose our setup openly so you can judge our work with full context.

Our six content pillars

  • Frame Finder

Measurement-based fit science: face shapes, bridges, temples, and pupillary distance — the practical guides that end the guessing.

  • Trend Radar

Seasonal trend coverage with a critic's eye: what's genuinely new, what's a recycled cycle, and what's worth wearing.

  • Lens Lab

Lens technology explained from the evidence: myopia control, progressives, blue light, smart lenses — claims checked, jargon decoded.

  • Style & Culture

Eyewear as fashion and identity: the cultural history of frames, style guides, and the aesthetics that shape how we see faces.

  • Smart Buys

Value investigations: what your money buys at every price tier, materials and markups exposed, and honest buying advice.

  • The Craft

The making of eyewear: workshops, artisans, manufacturing regions, and the craft traditions that define quality.

Our standards

Claims are sourced and dated. We link to the studies, the spec sheets, and the sources — and we date our evidence so you can tell what's current. Eyewear moves fast; last year's lens launch may be this year's discontinued line.

We don't diagnose. We're journalists and opticians, and our opinions are opinions, not medical diagnoses. Anything touching your eye health comes with the same reminder we give in every issue: talk to your eye doctor.

Corrections are fast and visible. When we're wrong — and we'll be wrong sometimes — we fix it quickly, note the correction on the page, and don't pretend it never happened. Trust is the only currency we have, and we spend it carefully.

That's the club. We review like consumer advocates, explain like teachers, and shoot like a fashion magazine — all in service of one idea: own your vision.
